What is it?
A four-week summer program that provides promising students with the opportunity:
- To explore university education and professional careers
- To obtain hands-on experience through experiments, lectures and special projects
- To earn a GLN40 - Navigating the Workplace credit towards completion of their high school diploma
- Gain valuable mentoring from a variety of professionals
In the summer of 2008, the Program will include opportunities in a dozen University of Toronto faculties, and provide spaces for 175 high school students to participate. The Program will run from Tuesday, July 2nd to Tuesday, July 29th, 2008.

Who can participate?
- Students at a high school from one of our partner boards of education
- Students who are 16 years old or older
- Students who are planning to return to high school for at least one semester
- Students who are members of communities that are under-represented at U of T and in various professional fields
- Students who are not realizing their academic potential and are capable of higher achievement
- Students who have been marginalized as a result of their socio-economic status, racial or ethnic background, family or personal circumstances
- Students who lack role models with whom they can interact on a regular basis
- Students who would not otherwise have mentorship opportunities
- Students who would not otherwise aspire to a post secondary education or a professional career
Application Process
Please ensure that application packages are completed in full before submittal.
Please note that application packages sent directly to the University of Toronto will not be accepted.
Each SMP unit establishes its own criteria. Please READ THE online SMP unit descriptions to ensure that you are eligible.
Important Application Dates
April 18: Final date to submit completed application, along with required supporting documents, credit counseling summary or most recent report card to the contact person at your school.
April 23: Completed application packages must be submitted by a school representative to the central office responsible for coordinating the Summer Mentorship Program applications no later than this date.
May 16: Students will be informed of their interview by this date.
May 24: Selected students will be interviewed at the University of Toronto, St. George Campus.
June 8: Admission phone calls will be made by this date.
